So, how do you test the character of someone they’re considering working with or maybe you work with? Are they a good person? Will they be loyal? Will they rip you off? Here’s one of my favorite strategies.
We could call it The Waiter Test, I guess, which is:
Before I work with someone, I usually take them out to dinner, often to a nicer restaurant, and I just observe how they treat the waiter. It’s an interesting test because how you treat waiters is one of the few social situations where you more or less have social permission to, um, not to be nice. So therefore, since there’s social permission to treat a waiter badly, usually, more often than not, therefore people’s inner not nice person tends to come out more often than not.
So, next time you’re considering working with someone, go out to dinner and observe.
